Matcha White Hot Chocolate

A decadent single-serving hot chocolate recipe combining rich white chocolate, vibrant matcha, and a homemade double cream milk foam topping.

Ingredients
  

  • 1 tsp quality matcha powder
  • 1 cup milk whole milk recommended
  • 1 tbsp double cream heavy cream
  • 2 tbsp white hot chocolate mix or white chocolate chips
  • whipped cream, matcha powder, or marshmallows for topping, optional

Method
 

  1. In a small bowl, whisk the matcha powder with 1 tbsp of the milk until a smooth, lump-free paste forms.
  2. In a small saucepan, combine the remaining milk, double cream, and white hot chocolate mix. Heat over medium heat, stirring until hot and dissolved.
  3. Remove from heat. Stir the matcha paste into the hot chocolate until the color is uniform green.
  4. Froth a small amount of milk/cream separately for the topping.
  5. Pour hot chocolate into a mug, top with the foam, and garnish with your choice of whipped cream and matcha powder.

Notes

Do not let the hot chocolate boil. Whisking the matcha with a small amount of liquid first is essential to prevent lumps and graininess in the final drink.
