Ingredients

  • 2 teaspoons unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 2 tablespoons Nutella hazelnut spread
  • 1/4 cup finely chopped dark chocolate (60-70% cacao is preferred)
  • whipped cream, chopped hazelnuts (topping, optional)

Method

  1. In a small pot, add the cocoa powder and a small splash (about 2 tablespoons) of milk.
  2. Whisk until a smooth, thick paste forms.
  3. Turn the heat to low. Gradually whisk in the remaining milk until the mixture is uniform and steaming hot (do not boil).
  4. Add the Nutella and mix well until it is completely incorporated and dissolved into the milk base.
  5. Add the finely chopped dark chocolate and stir continuously until the chocolate completely dissolves into the mixture, creating a thick, smooth liquid.
  6. Pour the hot chocolate into a mug. Top generously with whipped cream and optionally garnish with chopped hazelnuts. Serve immediately.

Notes

For a sweeter drink, add a tablespoon of white or brown sugar after you add the cocoa powder.
